I setup up a quarintine tank after my tank got the ich!! I know you have to do water changes everyday but sometimes I don't have the time to do it and I skip a day. Lost my flame angel today and was totally fine last night. Is there a way to setup up a more self containing quarintine without getting crazy and having another stressful tank??? Thanks

Oh man . Well if he died last night even with the water change then most likely he wouldn't of made it . Good thing is if he was caring something at least it didn't spread in your display tank . Bio cubes are good for qt but again no matter what tank you use the filtration is basically nothing bc you don't want anything in there soaking up the medication . You should run a skimmer and carbon in there while the fish are not being treated and once you see a fish is sick and you start the medication shut down the skimmer and remove the carbon . That's what I do

Yeah we'll skimmer isn't a must . But if you a extra one laying around its always good running it when no medication is being treated and carbon is so cheap so that's why I run it in my qt when I'm not treating .

What size is your quarantine tank.... Smaller tanks require frequent water changes so if you go bigger, like a 30 gallon and more you might be able to skip a day or two before having to do a water change..... But QT do require a lot of work

Unless you are using a coffee mug as a qt tank, take a deep breath and a step back and let's analyze.

If you have fish in qt as a precaution before adding to display tank and suddenly the fish die its not necessarily due to one missed day of water changes.

I just had 4 fish die in QT in a 7 day period. Tank had 10 fish, 6 acclimated, ate and made it. 4 croaked, who the hell knows why, shipping stress, whatever.

If you flame died after 3 weeks, many things could have affected it.

In your water changes, were you careless with salinity and temperature?

Sometimes, newly acquired fish simply die for no obvious reason.

A small QT tank does not require a skimmer, just goo mechanical filtration and weekly water changes.

Again, new fish die suddenly at times.

Sick fish die suddenly as well, it depends of the disease or parasite and how advance the problem is, sometimes we notice disease after its too late.

20g Usa good choice decent size and most medications are based off of 20g doses . But keep in mine qt tanks do not have food biological filtration so If your looking to get a bigger tank bc of nutrient issues you Can forget bc it's not going make a difference

Even with 1 or two fish . There's very little if not none Nitrifying bacteria in the system breaking down the nutrients so I doubt it . Theses tanks need to be monitored a minimum of every other day . So you could possibly get away with once a week just make sure your testing at least every other day to make sure and have saltwater on hand just in case you have to perform a water change and a water change of at least 50% has to be done to knock the nutrients down
