Can you guys help me I'd this algae? I found the name a while ago but can find it now. I remember reading that if very hard to get rid of.

Do you think I could cover it with a shell or smoothing and starve it of light?

Thanks

Trying to kill off algae by starving it of light may work but what you need to address is the reason for having it in the first place and that is high nutrients in the tank. Frequent water changes and good husbandry practices help keep algae at bay. If you don't already have a reactor running GFO, you might want to consider adding one.

To remove that algae, I would remove the rock form the tank and use a stiff brush to clean as much as possible off the rock. Rinse it well before adding it back to the tank.

You might also want to add additional turbo snails to your tank.

Thanks Kathyc.
I have a reactor running npx bioplastics. It cleared up all the other algae problems I was having... But this one. It came on my live rock and I liked what it looked like but recently its been growing. Unfortunately my rocks are all pegged together preventing me from removing it. I'm going to try covering it
