has anyone ever used this in there tank? If so I would like to know how to get rid of it. My wife poured about a third of the bottle into my tank and I was doing some research on how this stuff binds to the rocks and the sand. Is there a way to get rid of the copper in my tank even though some say that copper power is not really copper or should I just buy new rocks and sand? I would like to put corals and possibly a clam in my tank and invertebrates but I can't if there is any trace of copper. Please let me know. thanks in advance

This would be your only hope..and I can't say that it will be 100% effective.
I would use it in conjunction with the poly pads that are made for removing metals from tanks.

You should test with 1 invert before adding a bunch.

..why did your wife add it to the tank?!

Hey CB,
The only way to prevent this from happening in the future and to eliminate the threat is to get rid of your wife. Please don't tell BB I said that ;) lol

Follow Kathy's lead for your best bet.

Happy New Year,
Russ

Please tell Bernadette I was just kidding :biggrin:

Copper Power is real copper. Depending on how large the tank is, and how much was actually poured into it, the sand and rock will have absorb a lot of it. If it's a small tank, and a lot was put in, it will be very hard to get it out, even using poly Pads, carbon and copper remover. I would change the sand over, as for the rocks in time the will probably release all the copper. You could acid wash them, which will remove anything on and in the rock, but it maybe better to just get new rock.

I would say the tank is pretty large. Its a 240 gallon display tank plumbed by a 125 gallon sump and a separate 75 gallon refugium. I know with more water volume there is more room for "error" supposively. I am definitely changing out the sand. Didn't know over time that the copper will dissipate over time

@kathyC

am I missing something? when I click on your link I get a calculator of sorts for calcium, alkalinity and magnesium. I am trying to get rid of the copper if there is such a thing

I plan on going with poly filter pads along with running carbon and using the cuprisorb. I am gonna get new sand. As far as the rocks go I am still undecided if I am going to replace the rock or wait out the time for the copper to dissipate. I am gonna do a 75 gallon water change followed by 50 gallon water changes every 2 weeks until I get the copper levels down or gone. I will do this for about 3 months. Hopefully this will work

I haven't tested the copper level yet since its been down for well over a month now. Only good thing in my situation is I have a pretty big amount of water volume. My main tank is a 240 gallon plumbed into a 125 gallon sump and a 75 gallon fuge. My wife poured in a third of the copper power into the tank thinking she was cleaning it up for something she thought she saw as ich on the fish. So I really don't know how much it has hurt my tank since it is such a high water volume. I will get a test kit tomorrow. I have heard that they are not accurate though
