yea it sucks even more that the second frostbite since its been paired w the other one by themselves for like 4 months passed away due to stress, go figure I got crazy high end corals in there and they are fine, by my clownfish dies of stress, another funny thing is in my 57 rimless's sump sits a nasty little sebae that wouldn't die if I stabbed it with a fork, go figure just my luck!
yea I love rock nems, they are beautiful but hey I guess im paying the price, hes gunna be going up for sale, because I want to put a pair of designers back into the tank
rob I think your abundance of bubble tips would probably be what kept your clownfish safe, they will usually host a buble tip long before anything like a carpet or a rock nem
I'm so sorry for your loss .I don't wanna butt in but I'd figure I'd pass on some advice that was given to me.
Before I got in to anemones, I only had my black ice clowns. I then fell in love with rock anemones. I knew clowns hosted certain types of anemones but wasn't sure if these would be ones they would like. I found some crazy rock anemone breeder in Detroit and emailed him back and forth for a while. He said that he has nothing but clowns in his rock anemones breeding tank, that they help aerate and feed them. That the only way a rock anemone, any anemone in fact, will eat it's clown, is if it is ill or stressed cuz it will shed it's slime coat.
Long story long lol
I started collecting rock anemones and my clowns took to them. 4 clowns vs 2 rock anemones wasn't fair and I was nervous they would stress out and eventually kill my rediculously overpriced rock nems. Got a bunch more different color variations. They hosted them for about 4 months before I got my first bubble tips just to give them a better play ground.
He told me that any clown added to a tank with an anemone of any kind should be quarantine and watched for 72 hours for signs of stress or sickness just like any fish otherwise they just become an easy target for a hungry mouth. A healthy clown shouldn't be eaten by an anemone.
Again not sure if this is 100% correct but it was the info I was given by a reputable anemone breeder.
