Jackson not saying that u can't brew up a tank with out a skimmer I have gone the skimmer less route also and after a while it catch up to u unless you don't have any fish and most of us around here like a lot of fish so the skimmer less route only goes but so far

Ariel I 100% disagree with you. I have all the high end best equipment on my tank and I can say with confidence I have one of the worst reef tanks and almost no growth on corals in the history of this forum. However it's my reef and I love it!

What i hate Is being lied to over and over and keep gettin told buy this now buy this now buy that. After a year or less I feel like tanks maintain themselves, so it's all a money making business. Can't get mad thou someone is smart and making millions of us.

Well if you have all high end equipment for your tank and you are still not getting good growth then something is wrong with your maintenance, husbandry and water quality of your tank,
I don?t have all high end equipment on my tank, and I know my water quality is not 100% there is always room for improvement, but my tank still looks ok I can say.

+1 Ariel I think you hit the nail on the head with this. You can point fingers at anyone and everyone until you are blue in the face, however I will let you know that it all comes down to what you actually end up doing with the tank itself. Because everyone here already knows that you get what you put into this hobby. If your maintenance and husbandry is shoddy, then there are no amount of chemicals that can bandaid how poor of a condition a tank can be. Put in the effort and start to do daily testing to see how your levels are, and start to fix your problems from there.

Money maks there were times when I was in a situation when my tank was not doing as good as I thought it should based on recommendations of other reefers. I read and read and read and learned by trial and error. I'm not sure if I missed it but did you start a thread to help diagnose the issues you are having with your tanks growth. I see you tried dosing many things into your tank. I be tried various additives and in the beginning I saw no difference. Now I believe additives will only make difference in mature tanks which has a good amount of growth and calcium, alkalinity, magnesium consumption. If your corals aren't growing much I would not recommend adding those additional chemicals into your tank

Your absolutely right jaa! The only equipment I run now is a cheap skimmer, that doesn't even skim anything most of the time. My previous tank didn't even have a skimmer and it was the best tank I've ever had. ( only 8 gallon nano)

Unfortunately you'll never hear a company admit that all most tanks needs is a skimmer ( if that) they'll go bankrupt in a month.

Can't have it both ways. So which is it, cheap skimmer or high end best equipment?

@Moneymaks24 I feel your pain...... Early in my hobby, I would buy them just to try it out.....the basic items that seems to work well for me in the last 15 years....Good Carbon, GFO (More of a recent thing for me), and Instant Ocean salt. Of course, the basic additive I ALWAYS have are ALK, Ca, and Kalk.

Then the RO water and lighting are a must...Other than that, I still have issues every so often. There's no magical potion out there. That's what make this hobby interesting......

Take my AI hydra for example. The LED lights are great. Everything does so well except for my Xenias. can you believe this? My clams, Acans, and everything else are doing great, but my Xenias are crapping out!

I have been to both sides of the spectrum , i have had the basic gear and the high end , I have used the full line of this and that...... In the end , I don't apply myself as much and keep a normal routine and have not done water changes in a very long time and my tank is thriving like I have never seen simply by adding 2 drops of iodide every Wednesday , changing sump sock every Monday and having my cs1 skimmer running all day ..... Works great for me and I have never been happier with my reef.

You cant put the reactor on the list as it has no claim to do anything for phosphates. If you have issue with rowaphos thats one thing. But blaming the reactor is like blaming your Solana for you not being able yo grow mushrooms. Since your nano worked so well it must be the aquariums fault.
