So, i have a 20 gal sump under my 72 gal bowfront. In it is a bullet 1 and have been using filter sponge as a "baffle". Problem is i have some micro bubble and the sponge takes up a lot of room. Other problem is because of the bow front i could only get the sump in through the top of the stand.

So i want to add glass baffles, can i do this with some water in the sump as i can't get the sump out without taking the tank of the stand?

Aslo what should i use to bond the glass to the sump glass?

If you have a couple of powerheads and a heater you could throw into your main tank you could go sumpless for a couple of days.

Turn off your return pump and let the water level settle. Put the ph's and heater in your display.

drain the sump, towel it dry.

then go to HD and get some GE Silicon I WINDOW DOOR. DO NOT get kitchen and bath (they have mold inhibitors)

You can get a small squeezy tube since you're only putting baffles in.

When you get home your sump should be dry and clean. Put the baffles where you want them, and silicone them in. Start with the center one and you'll have an easier time.

Let dry for a full 24 hours, rinse and fill the sump back up with new saltwater.

Tada! Sump baffles and a water change all in one!

hey leonarsi..since you're in stamford you're not too far from a pretty good glass shop. I'm sure you're familiar with where Beamers is? A few block further on the same side of the road is a glass shop. They'll have exactly what you're looking for and custom size it for you.

Its funny how a post like this comes up when yesterday night I was doing some research on silcone for aquarium safety. The information that was read was GE silicone might not be aquarium safe. Someone even called in GE to ask what kind of silicone would they recomend for aquarium and the customer service rep said " I'm afraid I can't recommend any of our products to you for aquarium"

Back in the late 80's or early 90's GE use to list aquarium tank as a usage right on the silicone tube itself. I guess they got sued or had complaints about it, from people using it and it not working right, and decided to take it off of the tube.

Go to HD.

Pick up a tube of GE silicone II. Read the label.

SOmewhere it says 'not for aquarium use'

Now pick up a tube of GE silicone I. Try to find the same warning. You won't. It's not on there.

HMMMMMM.. Now why would they warn you about one type and not the other? could it be that type 1 is safe? and the same kind they put in the aquarium labled tubes?

Because we all know if it says "aquarium" on it it's gonna cost more, for the exact same thing.

Lowes will custom cut glass for you, but they only carry 2mm glass. After using the 2mm class, I would have gone for thicker as I cracked I baffled before I put my new sump under the tank. I replaced it and then about 2 months later cracked the same baffle again. It was the baffle closest to the skimmer. You can also special order from lowes if you want thicker, but I did not have time.
Your best bet is probably a local glass shop, but make sure you get the thicker glass.

Also I used GE silicon I and I have had not problems.
