Did the LFS also have some purple ones?
Unfortunately the yellow dye will not last too long, hopefully the coral will survive, though I've personally not had success with them

I paid 120 for it is there any way to tell if its dyed , if it is I will bring it back I got it from world class aquariums in brooklyn

If you didn't ask, they didn't tell... If they are, I would think that they are aware of dyed corals from their wholesaler ... I know of another LFS that has had them, and they were well under 1/2 the price than you paid.

This is why they dye them, otherwise it's a $20- $30 coral.

So from the pic you can tell 100% that is dyed if it is dyed most likely it wii die and if it grows it wont be same color thats a rip off , I want my money back!!!!!

That type of leather doesn't come in that color, plus it's a very bright yellow, which is a sign that it's dye. It will most likely start to turn in color to the leather on the left.

If you got it from world class aquariums it probably is died, only reason it's been there for years is their birds. Not exactly known for their saltwater section lol

It has 3 branches I would have bought 1 for 40.00 even if I knew it was dyed , but not 3 I was going to sell the other 2 for 40.00 lol

If it survive the stress, I think it will turn white.

It also doesn't come in white, it will most likely either turn similar to the other coral or probably tan in color.

Me like everyone else on this thread became very interested in possibility of a Yellow version of a otherwise common coral. I would just Google "Yellow colt corals", unfortunately when i did, dyed corals does pop up and very frequently. Not to say that it is impossible to have a yellow variant of this coral. Which would be a true collectors item.

While this is most likely NOT the re-seller (retailers) fault. This practice of dying corals comes from the source and its a good possibility that even the domestic wholesaler doesn't know about the practice.

If you can afford to roll the dice I would say go for it, otherwise just return the animal for store credit or pick up someone else. We all know there is Always something else out there.
