Step 9 in this Spectrapure water purification device says

Remove the DI filter cartridge from the right hand filter housing. Then reconnect the housing to it's threaded cap. Hand tighten

So basically removed the DI filter, during the first hour while the cold water goes through the other filters?

My question is, to remove the DI filter cartridge, I'm suppose to use this tennis racket looking opener device. This is a white item.

Yet I don't see how I'm suppose to use it? I placed it around the filter cartridge, but it seems like this cartridge doesn't want to come off?

If anyone who has used such devices before, had to do this when prepping the device for the first time, and could just help me figure out how to open up the cartridge, so I can remove the DI filter for a hour, I would appreciate it.

First off
Thank you for the video link. I watched it, and like everything so far, according to other people, this should be a simple process and then in reality it seems more complex.

So far starters it looks like he used the wrench near the bottom part of the DI cartridge container, pulled on it once, and then was able to by hand remove the cartridge.

Well I tried doing that, and the cartridge didn't want to budge off? The wrench also is so big, that where this guy in the video used it at, doesn't want to fit around that part of my cartridge at all, so basically it seems like I can't start turning it off?

I don't know if this is because the device is so new, and when the factory that produced it put these containers on, made them super air tight, but I can't seem to budge it in the right direction to start it to come off, that I'm stuck now at this point.

Try soaking the top of the canister in warm water and see if that'll loosen it up. If you have a thick PVC or lead pipe, use that to extend the RODI wrench for better leverage.

Strap wrench would work also if you have one of those.

I am noticing now too. The blue tubing that is suppose to provide me with purified water is attached to a port called OUT. This port is located right above where the DI cartridge is located. Is port suppose to be empty while I take out the cartridge?

Even if the instructions by Spectrapure state I'm suppose to attach this tubing to this port area, before removing the DI cartridge?

I say return (or put away for now) the RO/DI unit when you go through out your bottle of ammonia. Sorry man, just take me up on my offer to bring you some RO water and when you have everything together and running well, then hook up the unit.

So I finally got the DI canister off. I took out the cartridge. Then I put the DI canister back on without the cartridge. Then I began to start the 1 hour process of running water through both filters as instructed for 1 hour. Then I connected the hose adapter to the aerator I bought today, and connected the other end to the sink.
I started pouring in cold water into the device, and after it looked like the first filter canister was filled with water. Water began coming out of the device. Wondering why, I and my friend finally found out that the white plastic threaded looking part that is suppose to connect to the first two canister filters, was not tightened enough correctly.
It looks like someone at the factory made a mistake when putting this product together.
