I have a 40B gallon breeder tank with 6 fish ,A pair of clowns a yellow clown goby a purple fire fish a Mccusker wrasse and the last fish that was added was a pygmy cherub,i would like to add a couple of chromis but I am worried if the pygmy might be a problem he some times goes after my fire fish, also by adding 2 or three more fish will that be to many fish for my tank ,I have a hob ac remora skimmer no sump I do have some cheato in the tank .

I would stay away from the chromis. I remember reading that they basically kill each other off. If want a schooling active fish maybe red eyed cardinals. Poto (vendor here) had them on the website not that long ago.
Could do one chromi if like them. IMO you can add 2/3 more as long as keeping up with water quality
