well i'm no expert but i believe that the water has to pass thru a membrane in order to meet the requiremnts of water quality you are looking for. All the water that cannot pass thru the membrane gets rejected out thru the other line. Or something like that.

I never used a pressure guage before, I just test that water for phosphatges and such after I run the R/O to make sure it meets my standards.

And the bucket tequnique is def the way to go. I got 3 5 gallon buckets in my closet right now with air tight covers. Got em at Home depot for next to nothing.

How does the water get purified? I don't understand how it actually takes so long. Wha happens? The purified water drip out of the unit and into say a bucket while the rest of the water comes out a different end and runs into the drain?

We can make it more complicated than that, but you are just about right. Most of the water is used to flush the membrane - this water goes to a drain. Only a little of the water actually makes it through the membrane and is purified in the process.

Damn that BLOWS BIG TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's gonna cost me more for my water bill than anything else. All so I can make good water for my tank. LOL That is a good one.

That's right - with a softener before the RO you can take that 4:1 a little lower.

if your worried about ur water bill i would switch to another hobby taat2d :biglaugh: ...... there are many more expenses but water is def. one of the cheapest.. i cant stress the words MANY MORE anymore :sigh: .... :lol2:
