Hello, so I just picked up a Compact fluorescent fixture with 4 bulbs (2 daylight and 2 actinic) to replace this Compact fluorescent fixture that I had with only 2 bulbs (1 daylight and 1 actinic). My zoos don't seem to be happy now, and I have just learned that you are supposed to gradually build the time that the stronger lights are on, is this true ? My zoos are all closed up and all I see is purple....

The other reason for me to ask is now I picked up a Halide fixture with 2 - 150w HQI blueline 14k bulbs in it. I will be switching over to this fixture soon and i am assuming I shouldn't turn this on for the entire 12 hours from the start....

Do I need to know anything here ?

Thanks !

The best way to acculmate the zoos to the new stronger lights is to reduce the photoperiod and to place barriers between the light and water. Plastic mesh that is used for lighting fixtures works well or any other restricting material that can handle the MH?s heat. Then slowly remove the barriers and increase the photoperiod with time.

BTW different zoo morphs like different light intensities. Usually blue zoos like less light, orange-green greater light. So it depends on the zoos you have whether the light is the cause of them closing, but in general all my zoos are growing under intense light.

2 150W bulbs? If you're keeping sps, it would not be overkill (throw clams in there as well. Well, not throw, put them in gently, "throw" is not meant to be taken literally). However, it is overkill for your zoos. So, to answer your question properly, what are you going to house in your tank? And, do you have any heat management plans for placing 300W over the tank?
