Mother of 4 young adults, and 3 grands here. Let's see if I
deciphered this correctly. NYreefnoob has been setting up the tank for the past two months by adding a small amount of the lr from his previous system into the new system hoping to add copepods along with lr. He want's to know at what point can he transfer his livestock into the new system. Did I get it right Rick?

Mom here too...I think he wants to know when he can add pods to it.

Rick..wait until it finishes cycling before you add them. Be content with whatever might stay alive on your live rock.
Patience...is key. :)

Just toss in 1 fish from the old tank every 2 days. If you had pods from old tank, they will hitch a ride to the new tank, if the parameters are good, pod will reproduce. Don't sweat it too much.

Pods hitch hike on fish now? Usually the colonize on rock and get to be fish food after that.

You didnt know that pods hitch hike on fish? OMG. They prefer sea horses though.

Seriously though, I understood what NYreefNoob was asking. lol. If there were pods in the old tank they should easily travel over to the new tank in the live rock. Even the new rock, as long as it hasn't dried out, should have some pods. You'd be surprized how long they can stay inside of LR. Some water is usually retained by LR when you take it out of the tank. You'll also get new pods as you add corals to your tank since corals are usually attached to some sort of rock/plug.

I think its safe to say that as long as you have oxygen in the water the pods can live through most cycling periods. I had pods living in a bucket of sand with very, very little water for 5 months.

Rick,

NEWS - if you had pods in your old tank and you moved LR over, well, you now have em in your new tank - maybe not alot, or abundant, but you got em. Definately, though, they didn't come over with your fish :banghead:

If you didn't have them before? then listen to the ladies - add them after your cycle.

I assume you mean copepods and not co-pods?

Also, will your new tank even have a cycle? If you are adding rock from an existing system to the new system I'm not sure why you would even have a cycle in the first place. Have you actually tested for ammonia and/or nitrite?
