After all the talk I did about not usin a fuge or sump I am thinking about having one right alongside my 50 gallon. It is on a metal stand with a 100 gallon above it. I will have a spot 12x18 for this fuge or sump. Got any ideas?

So the 100 gallon is the display tank, and there's an attached 50 gallon? I'm not sure how your system is set up.

Ok.... the 100 gallon is a separate system. The 50 and the fuge would be connected..side by side.

I see. At 12x18", that limits you to a 10 gallon unless you fabricate a custom sump/fuge. Depending on which route you go, the 10 gallon should be set at different heights:

If you plan on using it as a sump, the bottom can sit level with the 50 gallon's bottom. Water from the 50 gallon would siphon down to the sump and you'd pump it back up. Just make sure the water in the sump can receive all the siphoned water in case the power goes out.

If you plan on using it as a fuge, I suggest you place the tank above the 50 gallon and pump water to it. Let the water from the fuge naturally spill (through a drilled hole of course) back into the tank. That would be the ideal fuge design.

Not sure if this was the kinda input you were looking for ;)
