I have a cured rock that I took from my 5 gallon tank to a newly established 12 gallon tank. The live rock is turning or growing what looks like brown algae on it. Is this normal or is it getting too much lighting?

24 watts on jbj nano cube on for 12 hr day.

I assume you mean it was cured in the 5 gallon. As far as curing with or without lights you can found support for either method.

2 watts per gallon is not too much lighting. Besides, do you have any idea how much lighting people put in their reefs and they do not have algae problems. Must be time to do more reading.
