white diamond filter media good for new tank?

I just set up my first tank. It is 29 gallon. I set it up with a good bed of crushed aragonite and then live sand on top. I also put in 5lbs of live rock that I bought at my LFS. I have an Emperor filter that has an optional media filter and suggests adding Black Diamond or a mix of Black Diamond and White Diamond carbon (the white to remove ammonia).

My question: if I filter out the ammonia with the White Diamond, will that inhibit the growth of my bacteria that will naturally filter the ammonia. I would rather not remove ammonia mechanically I think, if it will take care of itself in the tank...

White Diamond is made for freshwater use only.
I would not use it in saltwater if I were you.

I myself found that Matrix works well -- both as a biological filter and a chemical filter, esp. with limited filter size. Good combo with LR.
