Hi All, I just got a new Scarlet Skunk cleaner shrimp, and a blue legged hermit, and a red legged hermit. Question: is there anything i need to add to feed him or will he fend for himself. there is plenty of algea and liverock. 3" DSB.
If I were you I would feed the shrimp. The cool thing about skunks is once mine got comfortable they started eating out of my hand. I know of several people that have done this with their skunks also.
Hi and thanks for the reply. I woke up this morning, and I thought my cleaner shrimp was dead. It was his exoskeleton. He shed. It was so cool. the shrimp was under a rock. But what I need to know is "what" do I feed
it? I read also that these skunks can be hand tamed.
Many cleaner shrimps will "present" to your hand the same way they will to fish--they put their front pincers together and wave them side to side in unison, with their antennae touching the fish (or your hand) waiting for the prerequisite stillness. You can put a bit of flake food or other fish food near them, just not too much.
my cleaners are pigs. they are the first ones to the food,
and they eat anything. when i put my hands in the tank for something, they both rush right over and start crawling all over it, picking at the hairs.
all my shrimp are piggies, too. my banded coral shrimp is a snot though and he still won't come near my hand - but i can feed him if i dangle some food with a pair of tweezers. i hardly ever see my peps. but my skunks and my fire shrimp will always aggressively seek food from my hand.
congrats on your new critters! i think shrimp are a great addition to a reef.
