Iodine- how much?

For a 155 gal. lightly stocked reef tank, how often do I add Iodine, and how much? Thank you, Dawn.

In addition, why do you feel you need to dose Iodine? Do you do regular water change? What is your Iodine level?

I ask because Iodine often is not needed in majority of setup.

I seem to have better success in my inverts molting, as in more often, then without adding the supplement...

I see the instuctions on the bottle- which I haven't bought yet- but this is probably for a stocked tank, thus my question. I thought i needed to add some, as two lfs tell me they add it twice a week to their tanks.

It is often a good idea that ones repeats what a successful reefkeeper does. However, it is worthwhile to find out the rationale instead of duplicate without inquiry. One is called blind worship, the other type is called learning.

As the LFS why he/she dose it twice a week, and at what level does he maintance the Iodine level.

Sorry about that, Dawn. But I want you to understand the fact that you need to monitor the Iodine level if you want to take advantage of the dosing procedure. If you don't, it is just a hit or miss type of thing even if you follow the direction on the bottle. See, it is like calling a doctor up for how much medication to give to your child, and the doctor (who never see your child, and have no idea how old he is) tell you to give him 1000mg per 4 hours. Most people expect a question or two from the doctor, don't you think, instead of a immediate answer?

as with most lfs's they're prob just trying to sell you something..

it's always a great idea to test what you dose
