Banded coral shrimp okay?

I read that emerald crabs were reef safe- and then I found on this forum that they had wreaked destruction in some tanks...so the emerald is out. Now I pose the same question about the banded coral shrimp and your personal experiences. Thanks in advance, Dawn.

I have never had a problem with my 3 emarlds in my 55 gallon reef... I did however have a problem with a coral banded shrimp

i have them die thats about it...and emeralds i think are good investments to a reef tank...i have had two and both have/are been pretty passive towards the other inverts

Well coral bandeds can be a bit territorial towards other shrimp, crabs..and its own kind...as for them being aggressive towards fish, ive never heard of any stories of the sort...

you cant have coral bandeds together unless they are a mated pair

but with other livestock they are fine. They eat bristle worms too!!

I have a coral banded in two of my tanks and they both will take food from my hand.One of them is huge.They`re both coral tanks and I`ve never had a problem.

I have two of those shrimps in one of my tanks. When first introduced I took them out of separate tanks. They did a little face off and soon setteled down. Now they sleep together. While in separate tanks, I found them to be territorial. And one of them attacked a seahorse that I put in the tank,(He was the sole occupant until I put in the seahorse). The other one would occasionaly go after my blue damsels but they had it comming to them. They would pick at its antenne. For the most part they are cool to watch and will come up to the top and get food from my fingers.

Hmmm, you guys are making me believe what I had must be different specie of CBS. My experiences were CBS tore open polyps in search of food, and stalk upon sleeping fish leaving open wounds.

Emerald crab I had was fine when they were small, but when they reach a body shell size of roughly a half dollar, I witness them dining on my softies.

I am not surprised with the behaviors that I observed from them, as neither are selective feeder.

Yes, even the emerald. They both are omnivore.

I have 2 Candycane coral bandeds. They are a lot of fun to watch.

I have 2 Candycane coral bandeds. They are a lot of fun to watch. To overcome the territorial factor I removed them from seperate tanks and put them in a tank that was "New to both" and no territory had been established,now it seems that they are "Sharing" the tank. They sleep side by side.

Hey dawn!

The one that I had used his monster claws and snipped my anemone open, I am assuming looking for food. He would also try and nip at any of my smaller fish coming close to him.

FEED HIM !! Mine eat constantly!! The one I had in my 10 gal tank (Candy) has gone to sleep many times with food in his mouth!!!!! Once in a while I feed him a worm before I go out fishing. He love them. It's also fun to watch him kill it before he eats it. I rinse the worm real well and squeeze out the waste before giving it to him. I feed him daily - er nightly. Frozen brine or marine flakes.
