I have a seaclone 100 protein skimmer for my 75 gal. reef, it was the only hang-on I could find that would fit the system 2 acrylic sea clear tank. I am not sure what the product should look like in the collection cup. The skimmer has been on the tank for 5 days, the tank has been established for 5 years / We moved it last SUN, before that time it had an air driven skimmer, didn't work that well says previous owner. The collection cup discharge now looks like dark greenish-brown. Also I was told there should only be bubbles in this chamber, and mine has some bubbles but the majority of the product is liquid based. Any help?

The collection cup should collect dark colored liquid, so you are in good direction.

However, SeaClear's System 2 is not really a good tank for reef consider the price vs value. If you get it as used, it should be not as bad. SeaClone is one of the worst skimmer out there, IMO, and only marginally better than the air-stone skimmer the previous owner used.

The way Seaclones are designed, there isn't a whole lot of bubbles in the chamer due to thet "tornado" effect that the design is suppose to mimic. All the air should be concentrated in a narrow vertical column in the middle. If you want to be safe, I'd check to make sure the air intake tubing isn't clogged which could reduce the amount of bubbles in the chamber.

The color of your skimmate sounds fine. Skimmate composition will vary depending on what is being extracted. Mine is a dark brownish green color. Seaclone's skimmates tend to be more wet then other skimmers.

Thanks...at least I know the skimmer is doing its job! I know its not the best on the market...down the road I will find one that will fit on my tank.

I have a Seaclone 150 on a well stocked 100 gallon Fish/Invert tank(no corals). My fish are big time crappers.LOL The Seaclone works great. I have had no problems. Nitrates 0,Ammonia 0. The green stuff is what you want. There is no need to spend hundreds of dollars on a skimmer in my opinion. The measure of your water parameters will be the judge. Have Fun!

I heard Seaclones are not that good. You guys are happy with it?

BangBang, your right, as long as water quality is good then your ok. TEST, TEST, and TEST some more... My #1 rule...

IIRC the SeaClone 150 is the larger model. I don't have any experience with that one, but I can tell you first hand that the original SeaClone was a piece of garbage (and that's being kind...).

I think you'll find the vast majority of people who have owned a SeaClone and then owned something else later would never go back.
