Hi guys,

I am currently shopping for a return pump to put in the sump.
I approximate the total volume of water to be 120-130g.
I already have 420g/h circulation in the main tank.
I would approximate the the height from pump to tank is abt 4-5ft.

Questions I have abt return pump.
1) What size (in g/h) should I get for the return pump.
Recommendation needed for the g/h needed and brand of the pump
if you feel strongly abt recommending one to me :D
2) I intend to get a submersible pump to be put in the sump, hence generation of heat is important to me as I am not having a chiller. Should I opt for a external pump instead??? ( I was worried abt leakage problem with ext pump :? )

Is a Eheim 1262 enough?

Thanks

Eheim is quiet, efficient, and reliable, and if you do decide to go external, it can be used that way too. The barbed fitting of Eheim is good enough for ext. application, but if you want peace of mind, use some hose clamp. E1262 is fine for your flowrate.

Plumbing an inline external pump is easy to do and will not leak once properly installed. I highly recommend you go this route. My brand of choice is the japenese motor Iwakis (MD series). They're quiet, efficient, powerful, and ULTRA reliable. Depending on what you're looking for, there is a variety to choose from. For my 120 gallon, I went with one MD30RLXT (1000gph @ 4') and a MD30RLT (600gph @4', pressure rated through a chiller). Redundancy of pumps is always a good idea and if you can install two, I recommend you do so. Note that Iwaki's MD40, 50, 70, and 100 are all more powerful, but each uses fans that make audible noise. If your tank is in your living space, the noise might be too distracting. HTH. Any other questions just ask ;)
