I am trying to start a reef tank, my tank has been up and running for about a year now. I've only have some live rock, live sand and a couple of fish in there now. Its a 72 gal tank. My question is how do I control the algea ( looks like red algea) in the tank so I dont have to scrub the sides down twice a week. And how do I get rid of ick in a reef tank??

I'm going to move this to our "New Reefkeepers Forum" that we have created to help people new to the hobby.

Here's a few good places to start:

Red algae (the type you're describing) sounds like cyanobacteria. It's caused by excess nutrients in the tank and can be taken care of with better skimming, waterchanges, siphoning it off the surface in questinon, dripping kalkwasser, etc. Ich is typically a stress induced problem and can be fixed by removing whatever is stressing them and target feeding your fish.
