Hi Guys, just a question about the false Clownfish. I want to get a pair of clowns for my reef tank, and hopefully get them to pair up and spawn in the future. Its hard to find a nice pair, so my question is, Is it possible to get one clown at a time? Will they eventually pair up or is that impossible? Thanks Guys.

It would be better to get a pair together, but it's possible. You have to make sure that there is a big size difference between them, or they won't pair. :D

Yes, I've done this several times and seen it done many times with various clownfish species.

IMO/IME it's very likely that two individual A. ocellaris (I'm assuming that's what you're referring to as a "false" clown) will pair-up very quickly if they are the only two of their species in the tank and they're both juveniles.

IME getting different size fish may speed the process and lessen quarrelling, but even two similar-size fish will eventually work things out provided they are not already both female. One will become dominate and grow larger/faster than the other (turn female).
