My problem is...

Why am I not getting the same reading on my hydrometer with my tank and my sump. Water flows through both of them so they suppose to have the same reading. I always get a higher reading from my sump than my tank. Temparature is the same. Tank is 80g and sumps is 30g. Average flow between both is about 400g/hr. Specifig Gravity on sump is 1.025, tank is 1.023. WHY?????? :(

Please help! 8O

8O Strange. Some possible reasons:

1. My sump has salt crust around the edges. You may be inadvertently knocking salt crust into the hydrometer, raising SG.

2. User error. Sorry to suggest it, but make sure you are doing the exact same thing and make sure you tap the hydrometer to get the bubbles off of the needle.

Good Luck

Thanks Guys!

I know it sounds crazy and I thought to my self, is it just me or something else. But I did it a couple of times and looked carefully on the hydrometer, no sign of anything whatsoever.

Hmm... I'll look again when I get home. Salt crust maybe, poor water circulation possibly, whatever it is I have to find out. It's been running for a month now.

THANKS FOLKS!!!

When I was using my swing-arm hydrometer, I made sure to bang the container gently on the floor or hood of my tank to dislodge any bubbles on the swing-arm that I couldn't see. I'd always see a couple break away when I would do this.
