My five new guys are home and in the quarantine tank. The Marine Fish and Reef Secrets books both suggest feeding at least 3 times a day, one suggestd an auto-feeder. When I purchased them, I inquired at the lfs how many times he fed them, and told him what I had read.He said once a day was enough. I also read that they eat plankton continually in the wild in the water column. Now I've got lots of opinions, I'd like to hear from those of you who keep them in a reef aquarium. Thank you in advance for all your suggestion. Dawn.

He needs to save money in many areas. Also, as the old-timers taught me, a hungry fish is a healthy fish. He's not in the business to grow the fishes, just needs to keep them healthy enough til they sell.

If you can feed them small amounts frequently, that's going to be better. This would be true of many fishes, not just for nutritional needs but for psychological health as well. This is why nori's so cool, you can weight it down and let them nibble all day long.

I agree - I tend to feed as much as the system will allow (water quality, algae growth, etc.). I also believe in feeding the widest variety of stuff the fish will take readily. I'd recommend starting with very light feedings and monitoring your water quality closely.

My chromis seem to be happy with the frozen brine and flake food that I feed them. They have been happy for over 3 months now. I have another question on chromis. I have the green guys. I saw the blue ones at a pet store. Can I add a couple of blues to my tiny 4 school of green? Or well they fight?

Not likely, My LFS never had trouble of mixing damsels. They however had trouble with catching them with small nets.

I personally do not put any damsels in my tank.

In my opinion, unless your tank is very large, mixing ble and green chromis would be a problem.. As for feeding, ours ate any flake we fed and some frozen food. We almost always feed twice a day, but have a large clean-up crew for waste.
