I have a CynoBacteria Outbreak in my Mud Filter, the system is less the 1 month old, and I was wondering how to get rid of it. It started when I put in a piece of red Macroalgae, and has only grown. the Cyno has yet to appear in my 55 Gal Tank, and I really do not want it to. Any suggestions??

Would a moderator kindly relocate this post into either "new reefkeepers" or "general discussion" so that more people would see it? Or would Speigalreef kindly post a picture of his (her) cyanobacteria or macroalgae, so that we can all say "yup, sure looks like Helicobacter thermophilae" or "Caulerpa taxifolia without a doubt!"?

Thanks!

As to your issue, there can be a number of sources of the problem. The main problem when cyano appear (assuming it is truly cyano) is that there are excess nutrients in the tank. The sources I would verify:
1- input water (RO/DI ... and make sure the filters are all clean, tds is minimal)
2- feeding... reduce feeding amount or change food types
3- skimmer (assuming you have one) needs to be clean and functioning well.

But, in your case, because this is a new tank, I would dare say its perfectly normal and it will pass. See the above list and make sure they are settled and then give it time. If there's a big spread, it could be the tank 'cycling' slightly still... it will go away with time if you keep up with maintenance.

This is in My Mud Filter
Skimmer is up and running fine
I use RO water for my top offs, But filled tank with treated tap water so that could be a source of the problem.

I suppose Time will tell. Thanks for the help
