What Skimmer?

What is the best protein skimmer? I am looking at doing a 58 or 75 gallon reef tank with a 30 gallon sump/refugium. I have been looking at different types, but would like to know what has worked and what hasn't from others. I seem to be intesest in the Tunze or Euroreef series skimmers. Any ideas?

I don't think there is one best skimmer. There are lots of good ones out there. I like the Euro-Reef line. Best one I've used.

I think it is gonna be based on personal experiences..i hear the AquaC EV series are good and EuroReefs(agreed Mike)..i dont have one but ive never heard a bad word spoken of either two..they come highly recommended for the larger tanks...

Thanks for the info. It seems the euroreef skimmer is going to be the one. I really haven't heard anything bad and everyone seems to think it is one of the better and easiest skimmers out there.

I currently have a setup similar to what your going to use. I have a 55 gallon tank with a 35 gallon sump/refugium combo. I run an AquaC Urchin (In-Sump) skimmer. It has a very small footprint and pulls alot of skimmate out of the water. Doesnt require any tinkering or adjusting of water levels to get it to skim which is always a plus. Only cost me around 150.00 from marinedepot.com.

There are alot of good skimmers out there and three times as many bad ones. All depends on preference and the amount your willing to spend....

I'm on the aqua-c and euroreef bandwagon. There are skimmers that will skim more, but they require big pumps and use a lot of power.
