I need oppinions on these new lights. Are they hype or are they on the level? What limitations do they have? Some adds are quoting that they out perform MH's.
Please help.

Are these the 65 watt CFs? If so you can buy them at Home Depot for $30 I think. They aren't nearly as bright as a MH. I used several for a while. The big drawback of them is that the wiring for them is cheap. It makes the circuit board melt even with cooling fans withing a few months. The light is 6500K on them so it looked ok to me.

Im sure they work ok...^....i still perfer the Aquarium trade specialty lights...ie MH,PC,VHO...all of these things said can be bought for regular home use but the original design was for the home use not aquariums..Some things arent worth taking risks on cutting too many corners..Lighting IMO is one of them...Like Hillbilly i perfer MH lighting...

Insearch,

These lights aren't new and they're certainly not comparable to halides. They're just a cheap flourescent light fixture. I've been using one over my refugium for the last couple of years to grow macros. That's about all I'd recommend them for. They're not good quality fixtures, but they do seem to work OK. Replacement lamps are cheap too.
