Howdy All,

The Humble reef looks great!!!

Put a real cool rock full of holes this weekend and a mushroom coral. Is the muchroom coral a filter feeder or do I need to give him something special? Writting regarding lighting. The fella at my LFS says that I'll need to increase why WATTS not the type of light bulb I'm useing? He said to go with three WATTS per gallon? Is this so? I figured that I just needed to get the wright bulb. The light came with the tank advertised as a reef aqerium it's a 48 inch florescent bulb. Thanks for any suggestions.

Peace
Brad

Mush`s don`t need to be fed and don`t particularly care for high light levels.Look at the bulb/bulbs your fixture came with. It`s either a VHO flourescent or PC flourescent. It will tell you the wattage on the bulb.If you are just trying soft corals for now (as you should) 3 watts per gallon is a pretty good place to start. What size tank?

When you say 48 inch fluorescent, do you mean a 40watt NO bulb or a VHO like paats said? If so, you definitely need more light for a reef. What size tank do you have and what types of corals do you plan to keep down the road?

brad has a 75 gallon tank. if i were you, i would go to your neighborhood walmart and pick up one of those 4 foot shop lights the kind that has flourescent bulbs in it. go get you a 100% 03 blue and a 10,000k and slap in that badboy and you will be in business. the bulbs will run 20 bucks each and the lamp from walmart on special today for 6.99. see ya at work.oh and those are 40 watt bulbs, @ 48". can anyone add anything to this? raymond

Or you can get a mh kit for around 75.00 and you wont have to worry about light again for a long time. With the right MH kit you can keep pretty much anything, coral wise....
