I have set up a 10 gallon tank for quarantine , but it just does not look big enough. The small amount of water should help with medicating, but it may not habdle bigger pieces

Whats the rule of thumb for sizing the Q tank?

my q tank is 10 gallons. it is big enough for all my fish, but maybe if you have very big fish like groupers and triggers, you might want to go with a 20 gallon. quarantine tanks dont need to be too big since it is temporary and too big a tank and it is more expensive to add medicine.

As fungia said 10 should be enough unless you have some big fish. You really dont need anything in the Q tank except a rock or somthing for the fish to feel at home with or hide. Some people had PVC pieces in there for them to hide in. Just make sure not to put the contents of your Q-tank(rock, PVC) into your main tank as they will still contain the residual meds. HTH
