I got a Red Sea Berlin skimmer used from a friend of mine (freebie) that is all kinds of dirty. Just wondering what I can use to clean it that will not harm anything in the tank once it is set up. I've heard soap residue will never go away. Is bleach ok? Also- does anybody know a website that I can get just to waste container on top replaced- it was cracked when I got it. Thanks.

I would soak it in bleech and water. Muriatic acid works well too, if you aren't afraid to use it. Either way, rinse it well and let it dry completely before you use it.

The strong the dilution, the faster it cleans. Prolly much less than that would work fine.

1 cup of bleach to about 2.5 gallons is good. Be sure to use your nose and, if in doubt, sodium thiosulfate to ensure sufficient dechlorination. I wouldn't use the 50/50 mix, remember, this stuff is a strong oxidant and can really break down lots of materials. (Remember my jeans?) ;)

Regular white viniger work well at getting off coraline and other calcium type build ups. Let it soak over night and rinse in the morning.
