I am starting the plumbing of my new tank and would like opinions as to what I should have as far as valves and such. It is a AGA 90 with the mega flow overflow and accessory kit. Right now all I have is 3 ball valves, 1 between the drain and sump, 1 between sump and pump and one between pump and return. I know there are things I am not thinking of in my setup.

What else should I include to prevent a disaster and or make it convenient.

Sounds good so far to me. I don't really see an obvios need for the ball valves except the one AFTER the pump. The other two seem frivolous

Sounds good, the one from the pump to the sump is vital IMO, so you can remove the pump and not drain your sump. The one from the drain should remain open at all times unless you manually need to close it for repairs or something. One other thing is KEY in plumbing, UNIONS, and lots of them :D Trust me if you don't put them in you will be kicking yourself, make sure you at least have on from sump to pump and one from pump to tank, and make sure the ball valve is between the union and the sump or tank, that way when you undo the union you can close the ball valve and not have any h20 flow anywhere.

Thanks, I want to use extra ball valves so I can work on the pump and or sump without draining the tank. This way, if I want to add something inline later I dont have a mess to deal with.

Union valves are like quick disconnects? What about a check valve, worth it?

Not a union valve, a union fitting. Basically, allows you to disconnect a pipe without using a saw 8) Look for slip unions that use an O-ring, which allows you to disconnect without turning the pipe either...

I'm opposed to check valves, because (a) they add flow restriction, and (b) crud buildup stops them working.

Quick disconnects are great in pneumatics. I don't recall having seen any PVC QD's.
