Lee's Protien Skimmer

I was at my LFS today and saw that Lee's makes a simple, about 16inch, protien skimmer. And it was only 18 dollars. Is this thing anything. Probablly not but for 18 dollars I'd thought I would ask around. I'm pretty sure it's not that great but thought that some suggestions on modifiing it might make it worth it.

Sounds like it is one of the old fashion airstone skimmer, right?

There are two main types... check to see if it is counter-current. Some counter current air stone skimmer is as good as venturi skimmer. The main difference is that the air stone (actually it is made out of wood, not rock/stone) needs periodic replacement (and it is not cheap unless you cut it yourself) and it need an air pump. For some small, low tech tank, it can be a reasonable choice.
