Hey ereryone,

Well let's start from the beginning.
Specs:
180 half oval: 60x28x28
wet-dry flt
aquac 120ev
korralin 1200
600 watt lighting
100 lbs of live sand
70 lbs live rock

Tank has been completely set up for about 3 weeks. The water got very cloudy after the putting in the sand, so i changed 95% of the water and it started to get clear. (Probably didn't need to do that but stupidity and impatience prevailed). At th is time I only had the filtration sys working. I set up the skimmer about 1 week ago and the calcium reactor 5 days ago. Keep in mind the water was nice and clear before i set these two items up. 3 days after setting these items up, my water started to get a green coloring and cloudiness in the water. :( :? 8O I followed the instructions on both items. Just wondering if there is something not in the instructions that i might have overlooked. Basically, I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this problem and also how to clear it. I have a feeling I'm going to here something i have already thought of but don't know if this is just a cycle it goes though or if I'm being stupid and impatient again. Thanks in advance with any suggestions.

you really have to practice patients. If not this is going to be a very expensive hobby filled with a lot of heartache. If this was my tank I would leave the lights off and don't monkey with it for a month or so. You have to let the cycle take its course. I personally wouldn't even be running your calcium reactor right now because there's no need for it.

Welcome to the wrong place to post anything about your tank on RDO, vr6nitro!! It's called "The Sump", but it has nothing to do with reefkeeping.. who wants to let Len or Liquid know this needs to be moved guys?!

Btw, between the lights, the live rock, and the live sand (which won't stay as live as you like without a bit of food) you've ended up making perfect the conditions needed for free-floating algal forms. Turn off your lights, turn off the reactor (you know it works, but listen to jds, you don't need it), be sure to add a bit of fresh shrimp to the tank while it's waiting for your first specimens to finish their 30 day minimum quarantine, and it should be fine.

Being impatient will bite you in the ass but good if you can't curb it.

I'm moving this to the New Reefkeepers forum. You should get better responses there. As mentioned, the Sump is for off-topic discussions, although I can understand why the name of the forum is a bit misleading ;)

update.

Turned off the reactor and lights. I also took the paneling for the stand and covered the glass completely not to let any light in. It has already gotten about 25% clearer. I also tested the water and all the tests readings seem to be where they belong. Thanks for all the ideas. I'll keep you posted.

OK. I had purchased some crabs, hermits, stars, and some snails. At this point 90% of the bloom was gone. I put them in and started doing some research on anenomes and found they need lighting, sooo I put the lights on 8 hrs a day and next thing you know where back where we started. I have a feeling if I leave the lights off the anenome will die. Now I really don't like them anyway, but I feel i should do my best to keep them alive).
So what to do???? :? :? :?

Return the anemones, and stop buying animals before you do any kind of research on them.
