PC vs VHO Lighting....

I have read so much on lighting that I want to scream. All I want to know is which is better PC's or VHO lighting? I have a 58 Gallon Tank that is 36 Inches long and 18 inches deep. I want to keep Corals and clams do i really need to go to MH'S or would PC'S or VHO's be better. All I really Need is the straight facts. :?

Unfortunately, each lighting has their own benefits and drawbacks which make a straight-foward answer tough. I think that if you had to choose between a pure PC or pure VHO system, the PC system would be preferable. It's more efficient, has bulbs that last longer, easier to service, and more compact compared to T12 VHO bulbs. I prefer VHO actinics as supplements for halides, but I prefer PCs as stand-alone fluorsecent lighting systems.

As for clams and corals, PCs will definitely do the trick provided enough intensity. I recommend 4x96W to be safe in covering the widest range possible for livestock selection.
