I do not want to strip my established tank to get it drilled, so an overflow is my only route.

Can any suggest a good and readinly available overflow which runs quietly?

Pro's and Cons?

The sump will be mounted 12" below the tank and in an adjacent room (garage), return feed by an Ocean Runner 2500.

I used CPR overflow. It is pretty reliable, but my main complaint is the difficulty in cleaning it.

Have you checked out the DIY forum. Also, I found if you search the net There are hundreds of DIY overflows.

How much do factory overflows cost????

Life Reef I have one. You can baffle the noise. My tank is in the garage. Life reef is a good quality overflow. easy to setup and it self starts.

So long as it runs quieter than my current Prizm Skimmer i'll be happy.

I have found quite a few on the net and like the look of the Lifereef & CPR overflow. Prices are OK but i need to import to the UK. AquaMedic overflows are VERY expensive, around $200 !!!!

I recently made one from 4 inch plastic pipe it moves 800 gals and with the addition of of a tube in the entrance it is quiet the only draw back was the tube in the tank which I cover with a piece of custon agrocrete total cost was like 12-16 dollars if you wish I can draw you a set of plans with some pics. My second tank was pretty much all DIY 55 gal with 45 gal sump with 5ft counter draft skimmer. Leave a message here more than happy to help.
