I've read alot about benefits of sump's over hanging versions of skimmers, but nowhere does it say anything about noise levels. Currently, I'm tryiing to figure out which would be noiser? A hanging bakPak2 skimmer or a CPR sump with internal skimmer situated alongside beside but below my aquarium.. roughly 50" tube length away. The aquarium is a 30g reef tank that is sitting on a 40" high cabinet bookshelf. There is no space to put anything inside the cabinet, so the sump will have to be situated along the side of the cabinet. Right now, my Eheim professional 2 series filter is located on the side and the noise level is quite acceptable... actually you can't hear anything.
I purchased a AquaaVital all in one skimmer filter and uv sterilizer that made so much noise, that I had to return it. Now I'm worried that the BakPak2 will also make alot of noise that it will disrupt my tv viewing.

Will the BakPak2 be more or less noisey than a sump with a power filter and skimmer situated as listed above?

Thanks kindly

Never heard of AquaVital, so I don't know the difference between a HOB BakPak and it, but the main noise from the bakpak is when the water hit the tank, and it is not that noisy, IMO.
