JBJ light question

I recently picked up a 48" JBJ light (used) and was wondering if there should be a glass under the light? I thought I read something about UV protection and wanted to make sure? Right now I have the strip sitting ontop of the tank with nothing between the bulbs and water.

Ray,

No need for a UV shield for fluorsecent bulbs. It might help keep the bulb clean and protect the electrical connections from water damage, but it's not necessary to filter out UV.

I have a jbj light as well, its not a uv filter, but a splash guard. if you need one, go to home depot or osh and they will cut a sheet down to size for you. Keps the stuff off the bulbs... :wink:
