Hi Clamup and welcome to reefs.org. :)

Skimmers need to be fiddled with when they are new. It is best to make small adjustments and wait hours, or better yet a full day before making another adjustment. All skimmers are different too, so it is hard to tell you just how to get yours dailed in jsut right. You'll get it before long :)

Skimmers are all designed differently, so you'll have to ticker around to see what the best setting is for your skimmer. FOr example, my Euroreef skimmer isn't very picky and can work very well in 4-8" of water. However, my Berlin skimmer needs a steady level of about 5" to perform best.

We have a lot of aussies here (including admins :P). Make yourself at home, mate :)

I find I get more consistant foam production and internal water level if the skimmer is place above the sump. Not all skimmer can be used independantly though.

I fiddled with mine for the first couple of months to get the right water level and air intake. Now the only time I had to adjust it is if I change the level in my sump.
