:) Hi I am new to this site and to Saltwater aquariums. So far I have really enjoyed checking out all your comments. My question for you is; I am trying to buy a protein skimmer for my 29 gal. aquarium. But I do not want to spend more than $130 for it, I have checked out others comments but came accross one that I cannot find any reviews on, it must be new. Has anyone heard of or have any comments about the ViaAqua Multi-Skimmer?

Hi Diver0077 and welcome to Reefs.Org!

A CPR Bakpak can be had for under $130 and is a decent skimmer for a 29 gallon tank. An AquaC Remora would be even better IMO and you might be able to find a used one in your price range. IMO, the Remora is well worth the extra $30 BTW (I think they're about $160).

I've not had any experience with the ViaAqua skimmer so maybe someone else can give you an opinion on that one.

I've seen the ViaAqua in action. It's a ok skimmer, but not one I would spend $130. The skimmer is a basic venturi powerhead type skimmer with a lot of cheap plastic. In contrast, the AquaC Remora and Precision Marine HOT-1 are thick acrylic designs. I'd go with the Remora.

FYI, you may be able to find ViaAqua skimmers on ebay for VERY cheap. It's an mass-manufacturered asian import and it's wholesale value is probably very low. $130 sounds way to much to pay for this skimmer.

Hope that helps, and ....

I bought the ViaAqua skimmer and found it very noisey. Thought it would be a great deal to have filtration, skimmer and uv in one, but the instructions were terrible and confusing. I bought a bakPak2 instead. I purchased it for $129.00 online. Hasn't arrived yet so I can't compare it to the ViaAqua as yet.
