I should be going for about 82 in my tank. Should I go with a heater size of 5 watts per gallon for saltwater like I do in freshwater? Less? More?
I was thinking of picking up a pair of Pro Heat II 150 watt heaters for a 50 gal tank and 30 gal sump. Would I be better off with two 250 Watt heaters? That seems like overkill. Has anyone had any experience with these heaters? Good? Bad?

I think the heater sized can be calculated the same way as in FW. I like the idea of two undersized heaters, because if one sticks on it (hopefully) won't cook your tank.

I have a number of the Won heaters and have had good luck, but a lot of people have reported reliability problems. I think most of the problems were with the ones with the digital readout. I have both kinds, and after reading a number of threads about them, put them on a temperature controller. Mine have the temp sensor actiually right on the heater, so of course its ridiculously inaccurate. I think they made it remote later.

The titanium heaters are great in general, and I would never go back to glass.

I agree to the last post but if one heater fails then our stuff gets too cold. It is really a give and take situation, either way os OK IMO. I do agree in haveing 2 heaters

I guess the theory is that the failure of one undersized heater (off) will lead to disaster less fast than the failure of one full sized heater stuck on.

A temp controller is really a great way to go if you have a lot invested in your tank. The controllers don't usually fail, but if they do you just have the heater set a degree or two warmer than the controller. Pretty safe arrangement.

My aqua-logic costs about $100.
