Hi there,

I am just setting up my first sump. The skimmer is located inside the sump and returns water back to it.

I have a noise problem from the water exiting the skimmer. The outlet pipe is 4cm (1.5 in) in diameter and currently I have just added a PVC pipe from the exit tube back to the water in the sump. The pipe is at about 45° and about 12cm (4.8 in) long.

The noise is getting me down, is there anything I can do about it ?

Thanks in advance,
Paul

Sure there is there should not be any spashing water sounds at all. The best way is to have the water level the same as the water exiting the skimmer if you cannot do that for any reason fiddle around whith pipes etc until you eliminate the nasty sound. Good luck.

My Euroreef has the return straight up, the pipe has to be at least 4 inches above the water also, around the pipe is a sponge. The sponge has 2 effects, stops the micro bubbles and also seems to keep the water from splashing. I have no noise.

Check out this pic, maybe it will give you some ideas. I should also state that the exit pipe governs how high the water level is within the skimmer chamber. Not sure how yours works.
