I prefer Fiji rock myself. Honestly, any good quality live rock will do just fine. Check out our sponsors at the top of this page for live rock if you're contemplating mail ordering it.

Same here... if you can afford it, go with pacific. stay away from the carib variety unless the price is very compelling.

Actually, I'm a very big fan of aquacultured FL LR. I have the Tampa Bay Saltwater 'package,' and am a very happy camper.

I believe, but am not certain, that jandree has Gulf View LR (also aquacultured from FL Tampa Bay region), and is also a very happy camper.

That said, to paraphrase Gertrude Stein, live rock is live rock is live rock. Patronize your LFS if they're any good. They need the business.

The only thing I dislike about the aquacultured stuff is how dense it is and that it looks like it's aquacultured baserock. The Fiji and other rock looks much more porous...

hdtran: Completely off topic, but I see from your website you like telescope making. What scopes have you made?

Howdy, :)

Here's what I did and work out real good. Bought base rock with hoes and washouts good reef material, you get the picture. ( can get at LFS) And covered it with Premium Fiji. The base rock will become LR over time. I was very happy with my LR that I purchased for www.liveaquirea. Good luck

Peace

I believe Walt Smith is offering aquacultured Fiji (or S.pacific rock). If you're environmentally conscious, that's the rock I'd look for. Otherwise, I've always liked Fiji rock myself.
