My first coral, what is it!

hey i have just set up a 90L tank (aussie) well it has been a month and its ready to go, i picked up this coral it was just sitting at the bottom of the coral tank at my LFS and the guy throught it in with my pink spotted goby.

any help on the coral ID will be great, this pic is of when it is open if something knocks it is shrivels up and you can only see a white skeleton thing with little holes.

Either Goniopora or Alveopora, both of which have a very poor track record in reef aquariums with Alveopora being a little less touchy to keep.

In Australia, there's more of a chance of it being Aleveopora then in here in the States. Could be either though. I'm having trouble counting the tentacles. It should be noted Gonioporas have a very poor survival rate in captivity. I usually avoid flowerpot-looking corals just to be safe. It's a shame since they are gorgeous.

yeah i did a little research and figured that is what is was, it was just at the bottom of my lfs so he just threw it in for me so if it doesnt make it its no financial loss anyway.

It does come out and about though most of the day it seems to be doing ok but we will just see how long it lasts i guess..

it has 11-12 little petal things on each arm if that helps sorry the pic is a bit blurry was taken with my video cam!

Good luck.
My aleveopora (which I think you have) is doing great. I also added it to a failry new aquarium, so maybe I am just lucky.
It is great to have a picture of it new so you can see it grow.

I believe it's an Alveopora aswell. Goniopora have 24 tenticals and Alveopora have 12 and I can only see 12 on yours. That's a good thing Alveopore are easier to keep than Goniopora.
