I need info & opinions.
I have a 50 gal tank w/ lr, 1 coral, 2 annemones, & 3 fish. I have about a 3" sandbed & 10 gal sump. I don't like the looks of the sandbed & would like to move it to a 50 gal refugium. My question is how do I get the sand to the new container w/o causing a big cycle problem or killing my animals. My thought was to siphon off the top of the sand, then but the bottom layer in the new tank & put top layer of sand over it. I am thinking of going with something like starboard for the bottom of my tank. My main concern is not killing my livestock in the process. Any advice is appreciated

Not sure what you have in mind, logistically speaking, but this came to mind...

If you're going to have the sand in a 50 gallon fuge anyway, what about buying a new 50 gallon tank and using that for your display. After you take the corals, fish, LR, etc. out of the current display, you can just leave the sand in and use it as the fuge? Not sure if this would fit in with your plans, but it is one way of making the transition without disturbing the bed...

BTW, what do you mean when you say you don't like the "looks" of the sandbed?

I thought about getting a new tank, but it would be less expensive to use the rubbermaid variety. I really don't like the sand getting stirred around when I clean the algae off of the tank. My tank is acryllic & is already scratching. I also don't like the look of some of the nuisance algae, cyno growing on the sand. I am sure there are reasons for the growth( like nitrates >0 & <10 ) & I am working on them, but my livestock seems fine, so I have been cautious. It also just doesn't look as clean to me, especially on the side where the lower levels of sand are visible. Ultimately, I want what looks best & functions best for my tank.

ThirdDay, there is a scratch kit available to remove scratches like that in your tank. It works under water and I have used it in my tank, you just need to remove your fish to a place where the dust won't get to them before you buff out any interior scratches.

Here's a link to the scratch kit:

Good luck!

Is there any kind of kit to remove scratches from glass aquariums?
