I was talking to my LFS owner today and asked him about berlin setups. He said that he's done quite a bit of study into it (In his humble opinion), and found that what they dont tell you is that most of these berlin setups, are running either "2" skimmers, or are running tower skimmers that are like 3 or more feet high. He says this is the way that they keep everything in check.

He says that the modern aquarist does not want to run 2 protein skimmers or have the means or space to run a huge 3 o 4 foot tower protein skimmer.

I've not done any research (i.e. surfing the web) into the berlin setups, is this really so?

Thanks,

From my understanding, and what I have read, the Berlin method is the use of live rock, sand and skimmer for filtration. I have yet to read where it states the use of multiple or larger than normal skimmers.

and "who" said Berlin uses multiple skimmer?

LFS?

(Yeah...... I figure)

Seriously though, I don't really care which school of thinking my tank fall under, but whatever I think works for my tank is the best method.

From all that I read on the subject, not one resource stated anything about multiple skimmers. Lots of LR and 1 good skimmer is whats said in all my books.

I guess if your LFS sells only Skilters and Sea Clones then you have to buy 2. :)
