What's better? I'm currently getting RO from the LFS, but I'm tired of lugging 7 gallon barrels of water up 3 flights of stairs.

So, I'm in the market for one of the two units. RO units are quite pricey & I heard that they need to run constantly (which is too much). How about DI units? They're much cheaper so it kinda makes me feel like it doesn't work as well.

hhmmm. good prices for those units (on the links), but i forgot that the states uses 110 volt appliances instead of our 220 down here in sunny south africa. that really sucks. RO water units here cost about $1000.

Not sure what voltage has to do with anything. My Spectrapure isn't plugged into an outlet anywhere...

Residential RO unit like SpectraPure and many others use no electricity. There many be the need for a booster pump if you use a well for water (some in the USA use well water), and that uses electricity (less than 100Watt).

Commerical RO unit use a large pump for efficiency reason. The smallest one give you about 1000gal per day (a few thousands dollar per unit), and it is definitely overkill for most of us. There can be an issue if freshwater is scarce or expensive, such as in desert or beach/island regions.
