Hello. Iam looking to start a 29gal reef tank. I have the tank and stand, but i am alittle confused on what to buy. Like i said i want to have coral and some small fish in this tank. So what kind of equipment and lighting do i need to have a sucessful tank. I want to do it right the first time, so any ideas or recomendations are welcome and encouraged. Please help me out. What equipment would you buy, and what type of coral would you recomend for such a small tank. Thanks for any information

you have a tank and a stand

Here is what I would add

1. quality skimmer
2. Deep sand bed
3. live rock
3. heater
4. lights (depends on your coral list and wallet the route you go)

There are a ton of ways to set up a 29 gallon, a good place to look is in the member's tank specification forum. There are tons of good setups in there.

I would also recommend getting a good book

btw Welcome to Reefs.org

glad to have you here

Read as much as you can before setting up, if you truly want to do it right the first time. You can find lots of sites online with guides to setting up a reef tank. Read a couple and compare what they say. If you get stuck with specific ?'s, make sure you ask. You will find there are many different paths you can take for your tank. But the simplest, cheapest, and most efficient for a tank your size is the natural filtration method. Just get the best protein skimmer you can afford, probably a hang on model, a deep live sand bed, and a lot of live rock. Then decide what types of corals you want and decide on your lighting based on that. There are lots of online guides to the diff types of lighting too. You probably do not need a sump or wet/dry system, or a power filter. Good luck
