I am planning on setting up a 20 gal nano, consisting of: soft,polyp,and mushroom corals, 2 or 3 fish, invert and cleaners. The setup I have in mind will use live rock/sand, 2X55 PC, CPR backpack, etc. Can anyone offer some recommendations/ advice before I get started? Thanks in advance. oh...does anyone have experience with coralife or finnex pc fixtures, was going to DIY the hood but dont trust my wiring ability especially if water is involved.

If going with a 20gl I'd go with the 20gl low ( more surface area ). As far as Coralife PC fixtures some of the newer models 2x65 which fit on the 20gl low are quite nice. Get the plastic legs that are sold separately that hold the fixture about 3" above the tank.

How much length difference is there between the 20h and the 20l?
I have a 20h and Im hapy with it, but I also like ot build mountains of liverock instead of more shallow reef looking structures. But maybe when I move I'll get a low long tank to try it out.
Anyway, I have a 20h, and I've got a seaclone 100 skimmer and it does great for my tank, as far as lighting I use 1 65w 22" pc 50/50, and just added a 55w 10,000k pc.
The only thing I had wished that I'd really done different would have been to buy a prebuilt light hood with the lighting already in it as Im finding it very difficult to just find the old plastic boxes that you can put lights into anywhere around here.

Wow, 6 inches? Hmmm, I think when I move in Sept of this year, Im going to have to try and find a 20L tank and move everything over from this tank to that one, 6 more inches wide would be nice and a drop of 4 inches in height may benefit my low 120w's of lighting.
