I just set up a new RO/DI unit and the RO water is fine but when I use the hose for the DI it has a slight smell, Is that normal or do I have to run a specific amount through the DI part like I did the RO res tank?

thanks
Ray

No the RO taste fine and I didn't taste the DI because I was told it is bad for you. It just has a slight oder and I didn't want to add the water to my tank till I found out if the smell was normal

Filter the water thru a carbon filter if you are concerned, or just throw it away if it is less than 5 gal.... you decide.

Hi, I seem to remember that the instructions from the DI unit I used to use stated that, in addition to changing colour of media, once the water leaving the unit took on an odour, the cartridge had expired and needed replacement. If your unit is new, this may not be relevant, however, I gave up on the DI unt eventually as I was getting on average 10 gallons per cartridge. Not sure how much yours has been used?

That's typical if you run tap water thru the DI. Many people got lurked into a barebone DI filter, not realize that without good tap water, it is not economical long term.

Dubge runs RO water thru the DI filter, and so it should last for hundreds, maybe even a thousand gallon per cartidge.

Hi !

Yep, my DI was a bit smelly to start. It died down. Taikonaut knows more than I on this (he says it's the solvents used in manufacturing...and from the smell that explanation hits the spot....why don't they rinse....).

I reckon after a while it's fine. If your DI only lasts a few gallons, you are in trouble anyway.

There's a thread in the main forum on exactly the same subject,
