i found water labeled "distilled water". elsewhere on the label it says:"processed by reverse osmosis, charcoal filtration, and uv sterilization. i tested the water and it has absolutely nothing in it. would it be safe to use this water for my reef tank? its only 58 cents a gallon?

You may be able to find it cheaper. Most drinking water vending machines are actually r/o water, and usually .25 a gallon. Just read the labels on the machine, it will list the types of filtration they use. Most are carbon, UV, RO, and then even distilled after that. As long as its not enhanced with minerals its perfectly fine to use...

Yeah, at 58 cent per gallon, about 30 cents goes to that plastic container.

After a few hundred gallons, you would have spent enough money to get a RO filter.... but if you tank is small, and you don't use much top off water, it can be still be OK to use the distill water.

I have used distilled water for top offs and some water changes when RO goes down and have no complaints.

It is pretty much the purest water you can get, and our creatures love clean water :)
